Rawalpindi 31 Oct 2014. More than 600 km of roads have been completed in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) by Frontier Works Organisation (FWO). Gomal Zam Dam, Central Trade Corridor (D.I. Khan-Wana-Afghanistan Road) and the Irrigation Scheme in Wana are some of the major projects completed against heavy odds.

The success of Operation Zarb e Azb has paved the way for development of communication infrastructure at an even faster pace.

The scope of work that started from South Waziristan has now been expanded in other agencies with the construction of Bannu-Miranshah-Ghulam Khan Road (North Waziristan Agency), Peshawar-Torkham Road (Khyber Agency), Ghallanai-Mohmand Ghat Road (Mohmand Agency) and Mirkhani-Arandu Road in Chitral. Rehabilitation of damaged electricity infrastructure in South Waziristan Agency has also been completed.

In Balochistan, FWO is constructing about 700 km road network that includes the Gwadar-Quetta link, the Gwadar-Indus Highway link (at Rattodero) and up gradation of Kallat-Quetta-Chaman RCD Highway.

FWO celebrated its 49th Raising Day on 31st October. Since 1966, the organisation raised for the construction of Karakorum Highway has matured into the largest construction firm of Pakistan with a knack of working in remote and difficult areas. FWO resources are at national service during earthquakes, floods and other emergencies.

At the wreath laying ceremony, held today at HQ FWO, Maj Gen Muhammad Afzal the Director General FWO paid glowing tributes to the 1268 Shuhuda who laid down their lives while building the country. The DG reiterated that FWO remains committed to progress of Pakistan with all of its energies and resources in line with its motto ‘Striving for Excellence.
