The Signing Ceremony of Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2) Documents held at HQ Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) today was attended by Member Finance National Highway Authority, Engineer-in-Chief, Director General Frontier Works Organisation and the heads of the various banks who are financing this project being implemented under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) system.

Speaking at the ceremony Lieutenant General Khalid Asghar Engineer-in-Chief said that FWO will renovate M2 to make it at par with the international standards. M2 renovation is the biggest infrastructure project being initiated on BOT and will accelerate the pace of development through Public Private Partnership.

Major General Muhammad Afzal, the Director General of FWO said the project will be completed within three years with minimum disruption to traffic. FWO is the pioneer of BOT projects in the country, it has built the Lahore-Faisalabad Expressway and the Lakpass Tunnel near Quetta and will manage the M2 project according to the highest road specifications.

The Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2) will undergo a major renovation to provide better travel and transit facilities for the commuters. The scope of work includes a complete overlay (carpeting) for 337 km length, a modernization of motorway facilities & equipment, repair and rehabilitation to enhance motorway life.

The Road Safety Features, Rescue and Recovery, Distress Management System will undergo major improvements while services at Toll Plazas and Rest Areas will be upgraded.

The agreement was signed by Major General Muhammad Afzal DG FWO and by Mr. Imran Maqbool, President of the Muslim Commercial Bank.
