PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan Abbasi, while appreciating the contribution of the FWO to infrastructure development, the construction of roads network in Fata in particular, has said, “Keeping in view the vital importance of this sector towards ensuring socio-economic uplift of the people of the area, indeed sufficient resources have to be anticipated for this purpose in future too”.

Talking to Major-General Muhammad Afzal, Director-General of the Frontier Works Organization, who called on him at the Governor’s House here on Tuesday, the Governor was of the view that “repatriation of the IDPs coupled with reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure in itself is a big task before the government which is also the focal point of every development initiative on part of the government”.

“We would also welcome more generous and productive support from international donors. At the same time, there is also the need to continue efforts to maintain trustworthy atmosphere with our development partners on this account by ensuring transparent and efficient utilization of the resources at our disposal,” he said. The Governor also pointed out that it is our well-thought-out initiative to materialize all the ongoing projects on priority basis not only to benefit the respective populace but also to create space for launching new projects with much bigger scope for making rapid socio-economic well being of the people.

Apart from focusing on the social sector, development of education, health and agriculture were also the priority subjects of the government, the Governor said. “I have taken special initiatives to tap the available resources for launching small hydropower generation projects as well and have already found encouraging headway in this respect,” the Governor said. Elaborating on the recent initiatives of the government for the well being of the people of Fata, the Governor said.
