Khanpur dam

Located 50-kilometres away from Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, on the Haro River in Khanpur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), this 51-metre high structure safeguards the area’s water through the formation of the Khanpur lake. The dam, completed in 1983, has a storage capacity of 79, 980 acre-feet, serving as a major supplier of clean water to the twin cities. The construction process included the filling and compaction of 86 million cubic feet of rock and earth, made possible through controlled blasting and mass concreting
