The historic Sukkur Barrage, the world’s largest unified single irrigation system drawing water from the Indus River, underwent comprehensive rehabilitation after structural cracks were identified in its piers in 2004. Constructed in 1932 during the British colonial era, the barrage has a maximum discharge capacity of 1.5 million cusecs and continues to play a pivotal role in sustaining irrigation across Sindh’s agricultural landscape. This rehabilitation initiative highlights the significance of preserving historic engineering infrastructure to ensure continued regional development and long-term agricultural productivity
