The 384 kilometre Islamabad – Lahore Motorway (M-2) was modernized under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) agreement awarded to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) after its handover by the National Highway Authority (NHA) in December 2014. Executed as a Public-Private Partnership, the project involved re-carpeting a 337 km stretch, undertaking comprehensive rehabilitation works and upgrading key infrastructure to significantly extend the motorway’s operational life
In addition, FWO introduced advanced Intelligent Transport System (ITS) and enhanced safety features, tolling mechanisms and service facilities – substantially improving operational efficiency, safety standards and overall commuter experience
